Stirling MSP Evelyn Tweed has warmly welcomed plans from Openreach to ensure access for approximately 4800 households and businesses across rural Stirling to full fibre, high-speed internet.
The majority of homes and businesses in Doune, Killearn, Balfron, Dunblane, Callander and Blanefield are set to benefit from the newly announced 5-year plan.
The 2021-2022 Scottish Budget committed capital investment of £98.2 million in digital connectivity. This includes continued funding for the Reaching 100% (R100) programme, which underpins the Scottish Government’s commitment of superfast broadband access (at least 30Mbps) to every home and business in Scotland. The vast majority of the R100 programme will utilise Full Fibre to the Premises (FFTP) – meaning Gigabit capable speeds.

‘The Covid-19 pandemic really has emphasised how important high speed internet is to participate in our modern economy and society. I’m proud of the work undertaken so far by government and industry to increase coverage, particularly in rural areas of Stirling where high-speed fibre has unlocked further economic opportunities and growth.
‘Moving forward, more of Stirling’s communities will be able to access the internet services they require for their household and business needs. As MSP, I remain firmly committed to supporting our rural communities and helping them thrive, and I believe these newly announced plans will do just that.’
