Evelyn Tweed MSP has met with the Chief Executive of NHS Forth Valley, Cathie Cowan to discuss a range of local issues, including the current waiting times for users of CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services).
NHS Forth Valley remains focused on providing mental health support to those who need it the most. In the meeting, there was a clear commitment from Ms Cowan to improve local provision, and reduce waiting times which remain unacceptably high.
The Government has confirmed an allocation of £1,499 million to support CAMHS, and this will be used to boost dedicated staff resources and support a service restructure. These actions are part of wider plans to restart areas of NHS Forth Valley services following huge pandemic disruption. There is also a multi-level improvement plan in place, with the Board designated to receive a tailored programme of enhanced improvement support from the Scottish Government.

‘This issue remains of huge concern to families and those seeking vital support, so I was heartened to hear clear commitments to service improvements, and a plan of action for delivery. Our health service has performed beyond expectation throughout the pandemic, and our health and social care staff all have my immense gratitude.
‘As thoughts turn to recovery, I understand the huge challenge that exists within our healthcare systems to address backlogs. However the Covid-19 crisis has had a detrimental impact on our collective mental health, especially on children and young people. It is vital they receive timely access to services and treatment.’
