Evelyn Tweed MSP has met with the Chief Executive of NHS Forth Valley to discuss a range of local issues, including the provision of local health services in Cowie.
The Cowie Health Centre was temporarily closed for urgent repairs in January 2020, whilst the long-term future of the site was decided. It has since reopened.
In the online meeting, Ms Tweed emphasised the importance of the facility to the local community, and the pressing need for progress to secure the future of Cowie’s health services.
Chief Executive Cathie Cowan agreed the Cowie Health Centre remained a key priority in the Board’s local plans, and confirmed the exploration with public sector partners of other options for maintaining local health services situated within the village.
Evelyn Tweed MSP said:
‘I’ve had many conversations with local residents regarding the Cowie Health Centre, and the importance it has as part of wider amenities and services within the village. My conversation with the Chief Executive was very constructive, and there was a clear understanding that a solution must be found quickly as to future service delivery. The pandemic has clearly demonstrated the value of local services, especially those in the health sector.’
Local Councillor Alasdair Macpherson said:
‘I’ve been working with local community groups on this for many years and am glad to hear the health needs of Cowie residents are being taken seriously, especially against the backdrop of the pandemic. It’s clear to many the building is in dire need of replacement, so I’m encouraged these conversations are taking place. Local residents deserve local services, and I remain strongly in favour of that principle wherever possible.’
