Local Stirling MSP Evelyn Tweed has urged visitors and residents to remain cautious around bodies of water this summer, as Scottish Water and Stirling Council also remind the public to stay vigilant and safe over the holidays.
Visitors to popular tourist destinations should take sensible precautions and be alert to the dangers of wild swimming. Reservoirs, lochs, fast moving rivers and rapids all pose extreme risks, and in tragic instances in recent years have led to loss of life.
With the beginning of the school summer holidays, public officials continue to stress the need to monitor children and educate them on the risks such areas can pose to health and life.
Evelyn Tweed MSP said:
‘Children and their families deserve a summer full of fun and adventure, and many will be visiting Stirling’s beauty spots and rural retreats to make the most of their time away. I’d urge everyone to remain vigilant around bodies of water, to treat them with respect and stay alert to hidden dangers.
‘Strong currents, hidden rocks and other objects beneath the water’s surface, very cold water and slippery edges can all pose a severe risk to health and life. I very much hope visitors and residents enjoy their summer, in a safe and responsible manner.’
