Stirling MSP Evelyn Tweed has expressed her support for the important work of Stirling and District Women’s Aid, an important local charity supporting vulnerable women who have experienced domestic abuse.
Ms Tweed met with Lisa McGloin, Chief Executive, to discuss the organisation’s recent campaigns and caseload across the Stirling area.
Mirroring the national picture, there has been a concerning rise in levels of domestic abuse, exacerbated by the disproportionate economic impact of the pandemic on women and children.
Lisa McGloin, Chief Executive said:
‘Vulnerable women all across Stirling, from a whole variety of backgrounds, depend on our services to keep safe and begin to rebuild their lives. We provide support, information and temporary accommodation for those who’ve experienced coercive control, physical, emotional, financial and sexual abuse. Sadly the pandemic has compounded the circumstances of many of our service users, but we’ll continue to work in partnership with other local services to ensure women and children are supported through these traumatic experiences.’

‘It was good to meet Lisa and chat through issues the organisation faces locally, particularly the impact of the pandemic on women’s health and safety. Stirling and District Women’s Aid continue to provide an invaluable service to our communities, and I remain extremely proud of the work they do to help people when they need it most. I look forward to working closely with Lisa and her team over the coming years, to tackle these important issues.
