Stirling MSP Welcomes Scottish Government Assurances
Local MSP Evelyn Tweed has welcomed assurances from the Scottish Government, regarding ongoing public engagement campaigns around water safety, and enjoying Scotland’s natural beauty safely.
In a written question to Mairi McAllan, Minister for Environment, Biodiversity and Land Reform, Ms Tweed enquired specifically about government support on raising awareness of the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, and the dangers of visiting some rural locations, in light of recent water deaths.
In response, the Minister highlighted campaigns from VisitScotland, NatureScot and National Parks in raising awareness of responsible outdoor use – with 12.8 million social media impressions received by NatureScot alone since March 2021.
The Scottish Government also allocated £2.75 million for the Better Places Green Recovery Fund, administered by NatureScot, which aids in providing additional seasonal rangers for popular locations – as well as £3.6 million in additional funding to Scotland’s National Parks in 2021 which can be utilised for further ranger support where required.
The Scottish Government also works closely with Water Safety Scotland and other key partners, who provide specific public awareness campaigns on water safety, whilst also providing annual grant funding to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents to deliver their annual programme of home and water safety guidance.

However it’s so important to remain safe and responsible, especially around bodies of water. The tragic deaths as witnessed in the past year stands testament to the possible dangers when enjoying the great outdoors.’
