The MSP for Stirling has lodged a parliamentary motion honouring Duncan Scott, the most decorated Scottish athlete of all time after multiple wins at this year’s Commonwealth Games.
Duncan Scott, who graduated from and now trains at Stirling University, has had huge success in the 2022 Games in Birmingham, winning two Golds and Four Bronze medals in the swimming events.
He set a new Games Record of 1:56.88 in the process of winning his Gold medal in the 200m individual medley, before securing a bronze in the 100m relay with fellow Stirling swimmers Craig McNally and Ross Murdoch, and Team Scotland teammate Evan Jones. Scott then went on to win the 100m freestyle bronze medal to his collection, before securing another bronze in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay alongside fellow Stirling athletes, Stephen Milne and Mark Szaranek and Team Scotland teammate, Evan Jones.
Last year, Duncan Scott became the most successful British athlete at an Olympics and, in 2018, claimed the accolade of most decorated swimmer at a single Commonwealth Games.

Their efforts and achievements are an inspiration to the many young people who will be watching the Games from their living rooms, here and around the world. Supporting our nation’s youngest and fittest athletes is something we are hugely proud of here in Scotland, with swimming centres like the one at Stirling University giving young athletes the opportunities and support they deserve to go on to achieve their dreams. I wish Duncan and the rest of Team Scotland the very best of luck for the rest of their career.”
The University of Stirling has a reputation as one of the UK’s leading high-performance swimming centres, hosting the National Swimming Academy which is a partnership between the University, Scottish Swimming and British Swimming.

That the Parliament congratulates Duncan Scott on his incredible successes at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham; congratulates Duncan Scott on winning Gold medals in 200m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley, and 4 Bronze medals in 400m Individual Medley, 100m Freestyle, 4x200m Freestyle Relay and 4x100m Medley Relay; acknowledges that Duncan Scott is now Scotland’s most decorated Commonwealth athlete of all time after winning 13 medals across three Commonwealth Games; notes that Duncan Scott trains at the University of Stirling which hosts the National Swimming Academy; wishes Duncan Scott continued success in his career.
